Navigating Negative Thoughts and Self-Talk: A Guide for Small Business Owners

See this content in the original post

We've all been there - hit by a wave of negative thoughts and self-talk that seems impossible to shake off. As personal trainers and gym owners, this negativity can have a significant impact on our business growth, effectiveness, and overall success. But how can we effectively deal with these mindsets and focus on scaling our fitness business? Let's dive in.

Dealing with Negative Mindsets: A Personal Journey

Success doesn't come easy. Whether it's fitness business marketing, dealing with cancellations, or contending with factors outside our control, we've all faced moments of despair. But these moments of doubt, these instances of self-talk and negativity, are just part of the journey.

If there's one thing that I am confident in, it's my ability to persevere. I can push myself to the brink, but only after I've decided to do so. This decision-making process, this switch that flips within us, is what separates successful entrepreneurs from the rest.

Consider my personal fitness journey. Over the past year, I put on 20 to 25 pounds. But two and a half weeks ago, I decided this was no longer acceptable. I started working out, measuring my food, and putting in the necessary effort to turn things around. And that's precisely what we need to do in our businesses as well.

Harnessing the Power of Decision

Here's the unfiltered truth - being a business owner is hard. It's not always rainbows and butterflies; sometimes, it's about grinding through the challenges. But it's crucial to remember that we have a choice - to dwell on the hardships or focus on the positive.

Two days ago, you may have been on cloud nine, astounded by your progress. But today, a series of unforeseen events may have cast a shadow on your mood. This doesn't mean the success you've had so far was a fluke. It's simply a temporary dip that you need to ride out. You have the power to decide where to direct your focus.

Choosing What to Believe

Most of us are more inclined to believe the lies we tell ourselves than the truth we've experienced. It's easier for us to convince ourselves that "it's just one of those days" rather than remind ourselves of our successes and our strengths. We end up talking ourselves into the mindset that it's not worth it.

The trick here is to choose the alternative path - to wake up and reaffirm that you're here to serve your clients and add value to their lives. You're here to overcome any obstacles or blockers that come up. With this mindset, nothing can stop you from dominating and crushing any hindrance in your way.

Speaking Positivity Into Existence

The power of positive self-talk is immense. It's about taking control over what you say and think about yourself. Negative thoughts may come and go, but it's what you choose to say aloud that has the most significant impact.

I start my day with a daily declaration, a mantra of sorts, to hype myself up. I'll share it with you:

I am a child of God. He loves me and has designed me for a special, huge calling on my life. I am blessed and highly favored. No weapon formed against me can stop me. I love my wife, she's a blessing and a gift from God. And I will love and serve her with all that I am. I love my children. I will love and lead them to serve Christ with all their heart. I radiate energy. People get energized just by being around me. I add massive value to others in the way that I live my life, and I will speak life into others and recognize them for their unique gifts. I live a life of irrational generosity. I will give and bless others with the blessings that God has provided me. I am a warrior, a mighty man of God. Winter is my season. This is my time. I will not be denied. I will dominate and crush this day along with anything that stands in my way. I have high standards for all that I do and I always find a way to victory. I have decided that nothing can stop me. I'm a warrior. Let's go have an awesome day.

Imagine waking up and reaffirming these beliefs each day. With this foundation, no matter what happens for the rest of the day, you know you've started on the right foot.

Final Thoughts

As a health and fitness marketing agency, we understand the hurdles that personal trainers and gym owners face daily. Navigating negative thoughts and self-talk is not easy. Still, with a strong mindset and the decision to focus on the positive, you can leverage your inner strength to continue to grow and scale your fitness business. After all, the only obstacle that can truly hold you back is the one you allow to do so.
